Where is the Sound????
I have a 98 gt and i removed the air silencer and everyone says that it makes a cool noise...i did the removal but there seems to be no difference. i have a k&n air filter. is my problem a dirty filter, and if so, what can i expect performance and noise wise if i clean it?

that's not the problem i don't think...turn the radio off, make sure everything's quiet and listen at about 4000 rpm's and it's really not that cool, just a sucking noise. but it's always good to clean the filter to get more air in i would think...but i'm saying everything i "know" in theory, not practice. but i do know about the silencer cause my brother did it.

i'm sure it doesn't do much at all - but it's one of those things you can do when you've got a little time on your hands and 3 cents in your bank account (which happens to be exactly what the bank statement i just got says i havelol)

I did it , and got the k&n air filter , just before i added the complete intake , andI could hear it sucking just by letting the car idle then "gunning" the throttle real quick.

yeah it helps not much but it helps and u hear a sucking noise that means u r gettin more air to your throttle body keep the filter clean u can also make a homemade cold air intake system for about 30bucks that works just like a cia from a performance store

It does nothing. A K&N filter alone may give another 1-2 hp high in the rpm curve.

Don't overclean the filter either. If you read the package it says to clean and recharge the filter every 80-100K miles. Overcleaning it will actually wear it out and you'll end up allowing more dirt into the engine, increase wear, and wear your engine out faster.

krsllac,

if you wash it often, you're might run better because your damaging the filter, allowing more air but also dust particles to enter... That might not be wise in th elong term. Some Racers completely remove the air filter, but they don't mean to keep the car for thousands of miles...
