Take the starter down. Then use a deep swivel socket.

u dont need to take the starter off. just get a 15mm deep socket, swivel, a long extension and the piece of pipe to put over the wrench.i did that and it broke loose.

Yeah, you definitely want to soak it with PB Blaster for an hour or two, then use some extensions and sockets until you get it on there. Taking the starter off is a bitch itself.

it took me 6 hours to get my starter off the first time because of that damn top bolt. needless to say, that bolt no longer exists on my car

Everytime I drop my tranny I always take the starter down. It's so much easier. The first time was kind of a pain. The top bolt is the tricky part. I used a semi-deep 12 point socket (I later replaced the bolt). When you take it out, thread it in the oppisite way. This will make starter removal 100 times easier the next time you need it down.

to install a mid-pipe, its soo much easier on a lift. it took me about a half an hour to take my old one off an put the new one on. like stated before, get a long extension and get that bitch off. GOOD LUCK
