Default Popcorn sound from the rear?

When I downshift from 5th, and let off the gas, to slow down, or keep it in 4th or 3rd, and slow down, I hear this popping sound coming from the rear. It almost sounds like a flat spot on a tire, but it's not. I just changed my tires, same thing. But I think it's my exhaust. Am I right? I think I've read somewhere that certain exhaust setups produce "popping corn sounds" from the pipes.

I'm running stock exhaust manifolds, a catted (2) x-pipe, with a set of flowmasters. Anybody ever heard of this problem? It's not annoying, it's just a little weird. Doesn't happen everytime, just under the right cirumstances. Is it even a problem, or just an effect of the exhaust setup?

Thanks in advance.

That would happen on my bike just because it had a no cat and a slip on... I could see it doing it if you dont have catts. but you do... I would say its your exhaust, my setup doesnt do it...

what brand x-pipe? I have a basanni catted x with slp loudmouth 1s, and mine will pop if I take her up to around 4500 rpms and let off the gas until it gets to around 3500, then she stops. It's nothin to worry about, esp with flows.

Could it be an exhaust leak? I took a speed bump at schoolby accident at about 6 mph, andshebottomed out pretty hard, right on the midpipe I think (damn you lowering springs!!). I'll have to put it on a lift at school and start her up.

Yeah I have a BBK Catted X pipe and flows. Same setup as you, aixtreme89.

EDIT: Just read morgans post. Mine does it at just around those rpm's then stops too.Yeah it's probably my setup. But I'll check for a leak anyway.

Probably your exhaust. Try going downhill at different RPMs ( between 2500-3500), give the gas peddle a little blip, let off. I can make mine pop all day long. It's one of my favorite sounds.

I'm pretty sure it's your exhaust. I want to say It's caused by the back pressure (please corrrect me if I'm wrong). I luv when the exhaust "pops" on the downshift.

If you guys are referring to "backpressure" as "backfiring", as in a sudden POP!! Thats not it. My dad's shelby backfires when it's not tuned, and it's way different. This is a continuous popping, sorta like microwaved popcorn. I'm not sure what you mean by back pressure. Doesn't my x pipe even it out?

Not back fire we're definitely talking about back pressure. Not to worry it's a good thing. Other members can defiantly answer your ?'s about the x evening it out the exhaust.
