Chip or programmer????
Can I purchase a chip &not need a programmer, or should I purchase both? Ithinking of goingwith a dialbosport chip. Sucks that I have to go send it back it to have it reburnt with updated mods to my car (I am just about done though). I have been thinking about a Hypertech Programmer also. Both seem toperform similiar functions, but are they doing the same thing? In a parable...I can't have an X-pipe and an H-pipe. Does that logic apply here, or can I do both? Thanks

Chip or programmer????
GSX,</P>
Both a chip and a programmer perform the same function. They both remap the EEPROM (Electronic Eraseable Programmable Read Only Memory) in your ECU. They go about it in different way however.</P>
A chip plugs right into your ECU and stays there. A programmer or a tuner (whether it is the Hypertech or the Diablo Tuner) plugs into the diagnostic port on your car and uploads the program that way.</P>
Programmers usually have more functions that a chip. User options usually include the ability to change shift points on an automatic trans, the ability to compensate for different size tires to correct the speedo and many of them also allow you to read DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes). Programmers are usuallya bit more expensive than a chip.</P>
A chip is usually cheaper than a programmer but doesn't provide all the options mentioned above. In addition, the cost you see advertised for a chip (or a programmer) is always for a stock burn. Most dealers will charge extra for a custom burn (e.g. different gears than stock, different tire size than stock, nitrous, etc.). If you are going to by a chip make sure you know all of your modifications you want factored in and ask the dealer what the total cost for the chip is with theburn to optimize your modifications.</P>
Hope that helps and good luck.</P><edited><editID>Tech@ssd4u.com</editID><editDate>37826.3294791667</editDate></edited>

Chip or programmer????
Thanks a lot! Programmer it is for me<IMG src=smileys/smiley16.gif border="0">. So, then which is a better choice between the Diablo, and Hypertech's programmers?

Chip or programmer????
I have Hypertech so I am not sure about the Diablo. With mine, I can change the gear ratio and the tire size to correct the speedo, I can change my rev limiter by 100 RPM increments, I can change the top speed by changing the type tire. What I mean is H rate tires are only rated to 130 so if you program in that you only have H rate tires, 130 is all the car will let you go. Same thing with the Z rates. Of course the Power Programming, and if you have an AOD, you can change the shift points. The power program advances your timing, but by only a few degrees. I am going to contact Hypertech and find out by how much and I might be gettinga timing advance dohicky from Steeda. Hoped this helped.
