Default Can a stock 04 mustang gt keep up with stock lt1 camaro?

This guy at work is giving me grief at work for buying my Mustang. His camaro is pretty much stock besides exhaust and cai. His is stick and mine is automatic. Mine is all stock beside having cai and flows. He is betting 100 dollars from a dig quartermile race. His camaro does have 90,000 + miles.

He says that his camaro puts has like 275 hp compared to a stang gt's260 hp. I would imagine it's really a drivers race with that little hp difference. Are the 96 z28s heavier than our stangs?

I do not know off the top of my head.

You did say it is a Z28 and not a SS, I just had my @$$ kicked by a SS two weeks ago, but the Z28's I've killed them, for now any way.

His car really looks dogged out. Paint job is fainting, car leaks oil, and the car sounds like he has a manifold leak. It's definitely not in tiptop shape.

well it is alot of drivers race...a good condition 6 speed z28 with good driver will beat a auto 4.6 stang, IMO! when i was stock i raced autos and manuals and i could run with a good driven 6 speed car and i could beat auto z28s

Are the lt1s faster from a dig or roll? He can shift really good, but the car really looks dogged out bad. Hell his tires are pretty bald as well.

Your auto vs his stick, IF he can drive, I would say your gonna lose either way.

On the other hand, if he cannot drive, or if you had a stick you could win.

Don't discount the driving thing. I have beaten plenty of faster cars in my day.

I think I can take him due to car being in such bad shape. But maybe I should first get the mac h pipe for my exhause and some better gears first. His roomate says his car leaks oil, is overheating, and possible manifold gasket leak.
