Default tire size question

I have an 02 gt with the factory rims. I need new tires and i plan on buying a set of drag radials. Are drag radials worth it? how long will they last? and how wide of a tire should i run? i currently have 245's but i heard that i could run wider on this rim. Do i even need to run a wider tire? Thanks for the help in advance and sorry for so many questions

The largest tire I would run is a 275 on that 17x8 in the rear and keep a 245 up front. 275 is pushing it as is but can be done. Nitto DR's will yield the most mileage, it all depends on your driving habits they are listed for around 15k and are enough for most bolt on new edge cars. Now if you had a supercharger etc and track it you would want to think about bfg dr's which are a lot stickier and only have like a 3-5k mile life.It won't hurt to run wider it looks good and you will have more surface area for traction. Then of course you can go on to slicks etc but I think Nitto ftw. Dan

Do you have problems hooking? What kind of mods have you done to your car? I would think if your lightly modded you wouldnt neccesarily need drag radials. I dont know alot about the tire, but you might wanna consider looking into Faulken's. You can get them pretty cheap from discount tire and I had them on my 04 GT and they hooked really well for just a 245 tire. But I'm pretty sure they do make a 275 tho.

I have CAI, 3.73s, diablosport tune and x-pipe. I run it down at the local track alot and i have trouble get off the line so i would say i do have a small traction problem. For the Nitto DR what exact size would that be...275/ ? and where car i find them. I looked on Tire Rack and couldnt find them. Can i get them localy or do i have to order them online.

because you have 3.73's, the Nitto NT555R's would be plenty sticky for your application. In fact, i recently bought a mustang cobra with them and live in Maine...ie. there are no 1/4 mile tracks here so i do not really need them. They are 245's and i don't see why you would need to go any bigger imo. They hook up very well and I just listed them on Craigs list if your interested. http://maine.craigslist.org/pts/254753171.html Sorry, did not want to hijack this thread. Good luck

I have Fuzion ZRI... 245/45/17 front & 275/40/17 rear ... Front at 35 psi and rear at 30 psi .. It will run 2.0xx 60' times with a small burnout before staging.. Excellent in rain too.
