PI stands for power improved. The heads, cams, and intake went thru a redesign for the 99 model year. You can swap the H/C/I onto your car and make alot more power and a much better power curve.

With a high milage engine though I would just swap the entire thing.

I got a new4.6 pi motor w/forged lower and bored .20 over, new alum. flywheel, motor mounts, water pump, and installed for $6820.00. If you need info pm me.

Wrong, I did the exact swap and i paid a total of about 3600$, you need the complete motor, the ecu, and the wiring harness thats it. The radiator is the same part number between the 96-98 gt and cobra, the transmission is the same t-45 with the exception of the mounting location which doesnt matter since its going into a gt, and a majority of the accessories on the motors are the same like the coilpacks, power steering pump, etc etc. Swap is extremly easy everything dropped in and bolted up. took 2 days.

thanks alot guys. i think im going to go with the cobra strictly becaude obviously i dont have tons of money to spend on this car. i am a high school student just getting out this year. so maby sometime in the future il do that. thanks a bunch

Just out of question, how off would the motor mounts be if you tried to stuff an LS1 into a Mustang chassis? I imagine they wouldn't line up without at least custom fabricated mounts. Then you need the transmission and the ECU and the wiring which of course wouldn't match the ford harnesses and plugs at all.

This whole swap an LS1 thing is stupid, why not suggest swapping in a viper motor or a porsche motor. At least suggest something that first off would work and second off wouldn't cost more then the whole car to do properly. Geez...

+1 for the crate motor. When my motor goes(ten years from now) I will be doing the same unless the new cobra motor starts growing on trees

or you could find a wrecked stang and yank all the parts you need from it, sometimes you canfind a good deal like that.

You can pick up a used LS1 corvette motor for 4k with ECU or a camaro LS1 with tranny for like 4k with 6speed trans and ECU. Yes the motor mounts would be different.. thats not very hard to fix get a tubular k member and have some one make them wouldnt cost that much! Keep in mind the LS1 motor is a lot smaller than our wide *** overhead cam motors. the motor should fit with ease. Yeah there might be some custom wireing but it shouldnt be that hard go to a junk yard and pick up a wireing harness off a wrecked car.. Its just a thought so dont get mad. I am just saying it really shouldnt be that hard to do the swap. It will take more time and more custom work.. but it would be different and suprise a lot of people!!! just imagin pulling up next to a vette and spanking him, all motor with nosupercharger!!! yeah buddy..
