You damage the tranny if you go into OD at WOT (wide open throttle), I turn mine off as soon as i start my car up and only turn it on if i'm getting on a highway.

yeah , the stock O/D band sucks . so dont do any WOT 4-3 or 4-2 shifts either . I've seen 20% torque reduction on shifts still kill the O/D band . the rest of thestock 4r70wis good for500hp w/ a shift kit .

the stock 4R70W will not shift into OD at WOT from the factory, turning it off just locks the car out of overdrive, i turn mine off if im going less then 50 mph so it doesnt bog, turning it off does nothing for preformance, if you want a preformance technieque, about 400 rpms before the redline in first gear, pull the shifter back to the "2" postion, this is known as the D2D shift and is programed to firm up the 1-2 shift on fords 4R70W auto trannys, i can chirp the tires in my stock split port by doing it

When I'm on the fwy doing about 75mph and I want to get up to 110mph faily quick I tent to turn the O/D off to get a kinda downshift. I don't think it hurts the tranny much.

turning the O/D off knocks out 4th gear... it's great when you're in traffic so your tranny stays in one gear instead of shifting back and forth thus causing pre-mature wear....

OD is designedto be turned off if roads are wet or icy! The car has more grabbing power and control with OD off in these situations. Turning OD off in normal driving just uses more gas as you're in a lower gear (3rd), but the exhaust does sound much better!

I could leave it in drive & chirp 2 when it was all stock . there is different shift pressure for manual shifts . I have SCT advantage software so I can see all the paramitters . the stock tune reduces torque onALL shifts .
