HELP with pulling engine!!
So in the upcoming months i will be pulling my stock 98 gt motor out and putting in a relatively stock 99 gt motor (cams, forged rods and pistons, bolt ons)that i have rebuilt. Will there be any surprises, also, i heard that dropping it from the bottom is the easiest way, with the k-member, engineand tranny all as one. Due to the fact that i dont have a car lift (i have jack stands and a jack (24" high))will it be possible or has anyone ever, dropped the engine, k-member, and tranny all as one then unbolted the tranny from the engine and the engine from the k-member, then slid the tranny back to let the input shaft slide out andthen just pulled the engine straight up? Is this possible? This is going to be a driveway job, so i will use a cherry-picker to hoist the engine and k-member and a jack to hold the tranny up. Any problems that anyone sees with this would be great to know about now, thanks forthe helpin advance.
i did a motor swap several months ago, not my first either, but first time using a cherry picker and jackstands....in my driveway. I've done it in garages made just to do that. But doing it at my house, oh, and by myself wasn't hard at all. Put it on jack stands up pretty good, then use the cherry pick to pull the engine and tranny out as one. you might have to adjust the chains to make sure the motor and tranny doesn't till to far back and the tranny tail slides on the ground. if you have a friend, they can make sure the tranny end doesn't slide on the ground. the slowly pull out and crank it up till you have it all out. The reverse for going in. Dropping it with the kmember out from the car, you would need some go high jackstands, non that i know of and would be unsafe. For that you would need a lift to lift the body up so you could roll the engine, k member and tranny out from the car. Cherry pick, not engine lift, will work fine with jack stands.
i have some pics where i did it if you give me your email address, pm me if you have more questions.
