Need Your Help, 2004 Mustang 40th Anniv GT from a friend
My friend has several cars, and offered me his 2004 Blue Mustang GT Convertible, 40th Anniversary with the 4.6 Liter, 5spd. He's a great guy, and a real friend, and I hate to buy a car from a friend, but its a really pretty car, very straight. It has that strange cover over the rear seats (a 3 piece hard cover) and once when putting them it scratched the paint on the rear deck in front of the trunk lid. The car is Blue and has the racing stripes down the hood and rear deck.
Otherwise the car is very clean, with like 18k miles on it. What would he get to sell the car to a dealer, and what should I pay him for it?

RE: Need Your Help, 2004 Mustang 40th Anniv GT from a friend
I bought mine a year ago with 12k miles from dealership for $19,995. With the couple hundred bucks I ate on trade in and all the tax, title, tags, etc. I drove off the lot financing right at $21,000. I would say with the miles and It coming from a private seller around 17-18,000. Prolly closer to 17k. If he were to sell it t a dealership he may get 13-14 thousand. Check www.edmunds.com and run a true market value price quote on it. Edmunds used to be free so it shouldn't cost you anything to price it.

I called Car Cash..
I called Car Cash, and they said $13-14k minus an estimate for the refinishing cost of the rear panel (between the trunk and top).
I checked on KBB and the trade in price was around $15k
So are these numbers in the ballpark? You guys know this better than anyone, also is there anything particular I should watch out
for on the car? or things to look at. My local dealer offered for $100 to do a checkout of the car for a couple of hours, does that
sound like a good idea?

Also, what is the cover called over the rear seats
The car has a hard shell cover over the rear seats (painted to match the blue car body) its 2 or 3 panels, that cover the rear seat, and make the car look sort of like a 2 door.
Has anyone seen one of these, and what do you call it?

RE: Hard Cover over Rear Seats on a 2004?
I couldn't sell mine that was 100% stock for $16,500, with 26k very well kept miles. Since his has some modifications, it's probably been beaten on, and will lower the value. A dealership may give up $12,000, that's a low estimate though. If you were to buy it from him, $15,500.
