Phalcrow, another thing i was curious about was how you came up with your compression ratio of 11.5 with Flat Top Pistons...I have a chart i use for rough estimates (copied from SHM modular book) and with PI heads(42cc) and Flat Tops(0cc) your C/R is 12.6 ish...i'm sure you chambers were opened up some during the P&P process but not enough to lower it over 1 full point. Normally if your running over 12:1 CR you are using 100octane race gas minimal.

So, we vote for colder plugs? I don't see 93 octane as an option since I can't find it. Maybe I can go to a local shop and pick up some 114 octane and mix it in with every fill-up. Those octane boosters only raise octane by .8 if you're lucky. I see them as a waste of money.

your car is getting older so upgrading the packs/wires isn't a bad idea. I went with these
http://www.performancedistributors.com/4.6ignition.htm

do you know where you are getting detonation? The last cylinder on each bank tend to run hotter due to poor cooling and alot of guys with high compression setups will run a 2 stage colder plug in the rear and 1 stage colder in the rest.

Sucks that your in Cali with that crap gas they have! Maybe try some octane booster everytime you fill up. Thats what the guys in Hawaii do since they get the same crap gas you do.
You went with that company thats awsome I have the same but I didn't do the wires and it did make a difference. My plugs I only gapped the .060 instead of the .065 they say to gap them to using those coil packs plus there 100 bucks for the pair. my setup is

Scremin demon coil packs
Ford racing 9mm wires
TR66 Plugs gapped at .060

At 11.5:1 91 octane is not going to do it--you've built what sounds like a very nicetrack engine, but you're trying to run it on street juice. The 160° thermostat will buy you some improvement, but the real problem is you need at least 96 octane fuel--try a small local airport, they might be willing to sell you aviation fuel (depending on the CA legalities of their doing so).

Ok, where I live, 91 octane is premium. Tell me where I can find octane greater than 91 and I'll start buying gas from there. Mid grade is 89 and the cheap stuff is 87. I'm not buying barrels of high octane over the internet and I have been told 76 stations sell 100, but I have not seen it. I live in Ventura, CA. I guess 91 is the best you can get. I have an SCT custom chip tune. It can be changed, but I would have to back to the tuner.
You built an 11.5:1 compression (if not higher if your wrong about your setup)motor, your trying to drive it on the street (tell me its not your daily driver) and your best gas availble is 91 octane???

No upgrade to the ignition is going to help, your simply running too poor of fuel on a setup with too much compression. I would be surprised if even 93 would run ideal with a 11.5:1 + compression ratio.

Only other optionI can think of is a meth/water injection kit. They have themfor N/A applications, such as your case, and F/I setups.

No, fortunately it's not my daily driver. I have a Saturn to get me around. The Stang is just my toy/hobby/money pit. Ya, I was told that the compression would be fine with 91 octane. Plus, it's not detonating too bad, it's only bad when it's warm, more than half throttle at low rpm's. say, going 50, accelerating without downshifting (it's an auto). If I pay attention to how I drive I can keep it from detonating, but it's rather annoying.
