5W20 or 5W30

5W20 or 5W30
I have an 04 Mustang GT and I was wondering if it would hurt or screw anything up 2 run 5W30 synthetic instead of 5W20 synthetic cuz its cheaper 2 run the 5W30. Any advice would b greatly appreciated.

I don't think it would hurt anything, especially in summer, but the reasoning behind the 5/20 is that it is an extremely tight tolerance motor, so very light viscosity is needed for proper lubrication, so if you have a lot of miles I wouldn't worry at all.

I would never run 5w-20 in my motor, don't care what they reccomend. It's all about energy savings at that point. They say 5w-20 to get the gas mileage up like a fraction of a mile to pass EPA standards. 5w-20 is a lighter wieght and thinner oil than 5w-30. Stick with 5w-30, but I wouldn't go 10w-30 unless you race your car a lot or live in Arizona. I use 10w-30, but only drive my car when it's 80 degrees outside and it has 74kmi on it!

I`d just follow what the mfr recommends, after all they build the car. In my `06 Mercury Milan, the manual calls for 0W20 because of the close tolerances in the engine. It also states that if you have an engine failure, & they find out you were using other than recommended oil weight, you warranty is void.
