Default 96gt w/ 160k miles

Had a couple of paragraphs typed about this car, but I'll just say it like this, It has sentimental value to several people in my family, and I've become the care taker. Meaning SHES MINE!!!!!

She is a little sickly right now and needs some rehabilitiation. I've been lurking around the forums for a few days. Enough to at least form some questions.

I know I'm not going to be boosting, and putting nitrous on a engine with 160k miles. I probably could but doesn't sound like a wise investment.

It sounds like my best options would be to do these mods first.

Intake
Exhaust
Headers Long tube
gears 4.10 3.90 or 3.73
Wheels
Tuner
then get it tuned.

Guess at this point I have the option to overhaul or replace the existing motor...

Basically if I overhual, I want to know what parts I should take care of while I'm there. It sounds like a PI upgrade is in order. Heads, CAM, Manafold?

If not overhauling the old engine, making sure the new engine is 98+

Can I put any engine from 96 to 04 GT or Cobra in this car?

Well just asking questions, making my presense know. Later

Get the current engine rebuilt. Talk to your engine builders about a head/cam setup for max power N/A.

Also, why no forced induction? If your at least thinking about getting a rebuild on the engine, have them forge the bottom end while their at it and your already set. The current mileage won't matter on a rebuilt engine, you'd be all ready to go for a supercharger or whatever method you choose. If you do go new engine, make sure it's at least 99+.

But again, rebuild your current engine with forged bottom end and do the PI swap all at the same time.

Only reason I didn't mention super charging, target HP, or anything like that is I didn't want to sound like a complete noob on my first post.

Will have about 1500 to spend right away, and figured I'd start with the basics, then build the motor itself since they are all bolt ons, I can do differant mods over the weekend until I get to the engine.

hrmmmm...

Flip the statement above and start by yanking the motor and having it rebulit, espically if you have another daily driver. Mustangs are no fun in the winter time. Better off to start with a good solid foundation then with a beaten up 160k mile foundation

you get an "A" for reading up on your new car firstwhat color is it?

i would suggest getting an exhaust system done first, makes it much more fun to drive. most mods you do now will work with a swapped engine unless you go with a 4v or a ohv engine. new internals andPI parts should have a fund. but for now just enjoy it!

+1 exhaust is always the first mod i do just for the sexy sound, and if your plan on doing a rebuild then there is no reason not to go FI

Your best bet would be to find a 99-04 gt engine and just drop it in then go with the mods.
