Default Help...terrible gas mileage.

I have a 2000 GT and lately I've noticed that I'm going through a lot of gas. I've been recording my mileage and and I'm only gettin 10-11mpg in the city and 17-18 on the highway. In my 98 GT, I would always get around 17cty and 25-26hwy. I work at a Ford Dealership and we scanned it for trouble codes and nothing came up, but they won't do any favors for employees. What could be killing my gas mileage?

Fuel Filter and Plugs is what I would check.

I get great gas milliage, city or highway. Mostly 23 mpgcity and 26 highway. And thats not even babying it much. On long trips, I have been known to get almost 30 mpg doing 75 all the way.

If you didn't advance the timeing and didn't increase the compression ratio, and are running an octane higher than 87, thats your problem. The higher the octane, the harder the fuel is to burn. If you don't have any compression or advance timing to help burn the fuel, then you are just wasting your money and losing horse power along with milliage.

I know lots of people that are running 93 octane in their stockl stang thinking that it will get them better milliage, but its not, you can actually lose up to 10 mpg and 20 horse power depending on what octane you are using on a stock stang.

That makes sense because the pastfew times I've filled up I've put 92 octane in it because I had access to the company gas card so it didn't cost me anything. I'll try 87 and see how it does..thanks for the suggestions.

Does it have any loss in power? Any other symptoms that you could tell?

No loss in power...just loss in fuel mileage.

these are generally cheap and most people could usually end up using new ones anyways so i would start here but also change the wires too
