What are the differences between the motors in a 99 or 01 Cobra and03-04 Mach 1 besides the intakes?
p.s: also add the 96-98 Cobra in the mix. I'm trying to decide which one is the better buy for me, I not looking for much HP 300rwhp would be nice. I honestly just wanting a 5 spd, with more power than my 96 auto npi

i should make you search but ill be nice, with what i know anyway:

99-01 cobra's prolly the worst years of the cobra's. Until you get the fix anyway.

99-01 cobra has the same CR as the GT (9.5:1 i THINK)
03/04 Mach has 10.1:1 CR

99 cobra's have t45 trans , i THINK the 01s have the 3650. Machs have the 3650 (manuals)

I'm pretty sure the cobras have 3.27:1 final drive, as the Machs have 3.55:1

96-98 Cobras have that awesome teksid block - great for LOTS of horsepower.

IMHO (and Im biased) the 03 Mach is a better choice, but it's all up to you really. If you can afford it though, get a terminator
Styling wise:
Machs have grill delete, running pony emblems,(unless its 04 it has a 40th anniv badge), heratige wheels (if you get it stock), 2-tone color scheme(flat black and color), different C piller, retro seats, gauge cluster). Mach 1 Chin Spoiler (oh yea, that's sexy :P)
Cobras have the std grills, cobra emblems(duh), and the rest is pretty much standard. Oh yea, and the cobra hood is also the v6 hood for those years. I think the cobras have those suede insert seats, not sure on that, and front fender. Some have the "Cobra" rear fascia as well

Performance
Cobras have IRS (i think again)
Machs have live rear(solid) axle

Mach's have "lowering" springs, unique valved tokico shocks/struts (loweing it approx 1/2" from GT)

Both have same brakes.

Both 99-01 cobra and 03/04 mach 1 are 4V engines, so they respond very well to mods
Mach 1 is a little faster because it has 3.55 gears stock, as opposed to 3.27 in the cobra
Cobra also has IRS (Independ. Rear Suspension) which is good for daily driving, but not for launching

the mach 1 motors have forged cranks, while the 99+ Cobra motors have all forged internals, so the motor will be able to handle just about anything you decide to do to it.

I dont think the 99-01 have all forged internals...

The 99+ cobras do not have forged internals, only a steel crank.

The mach 1 cars only come with a forged crank in the manuals, the automatics have a cast one like the GT.

I have also heard that the mach 1s have a slightly different cam profile and head porting setup.

A mach 1 will definatly outrun a the 4v cobras (except the FI ones). The cobras weigh more, have and IRS, and have a 3.27 gear ratio.

I know what you are saying, but yah, clarify that 03-04 Cobras do have the forged goodies from the factory.

So get a Mach 1 over the 99 or 01 Cobras(unless its the 03-04 Cobra). Any down sides to 96-98 Cobra vs the Mach 1?
