Default Who has removed their starter?

Im trying to get the starter off. Its the last thing before I unbolt the tranny from the motor, unbolt the motor mounts and pull this sucker out.

I have no idea how to get the last starter bolt out thats up on top. Its tucked away in there up high. I can barely see it; how the hell do you get at it with a wrench? I really dont want to drop the k member.

Any suggestions?

It's a PITA. I got it with a swivel head ratchet. When you get it out, put it back in facing the other way. The next time you have to get the trans or starter out, it'll be so much easier.

the worst bolt i've ever had to get[:@]...a swivel is what i used too, but i used about 18" of extensions and brought in from the front of the engine, once i guided it onto the bolt, the extentions brought the ratchet out to actually get some movement, take your time...it wont come easy

What size drive ratchet? 1/4 or 3/8? It doesnt even look like the head will fit in there. Did you go from under the car or from the side? Ive got the car up on jackstands with the wheels off.

I was able to get the bottom bolt from the bottom, the side bolt from the side. Which angle of attack did you use to get the top?

Did you ever get you power steering pump off? I just got mine off today. I removed the piece you screw the oil filter to (cant remember what its called). Four simple bolts and disconnecting the coolant hose. Then hit the last bolt with a 10mm wrench. Ended up being fairly easy.

I used a 1/4" ratchet and I got it from underneath the car. I had it on a lift, though. I'm not sure if you can get the necessary leverage just on jack stands. Just be slow with it. It'll come out eventually. Once you break it loose, it'll come out with no problems... I've never taken the PS pump off. Sounds easy, though.

Ill try it both ways and see how it comes out. I thought I was talking with you about removing the last bolt on the power steering pump. Guess not, lol. Thanks though I appreciate the help..

2 swivels and long extensions

If you take your kmember off you can sit in the wheel well andyou have all the room in the world. Not sure you want to do that though.

Leave it out, not really needed. Starter can be suppoted by two bolts
