My question between all my friends is which motor (at the fly) could get more hp and tq. i willing to bet more cubic inch could pull more powerwith just bolt ons than the 32 valve. I know for a fact it will make more tq but it is to close to call with the hp numbers. The lightning is slower because its an automatic (drivetrain loss not performance) and its like 1000 lbs heavier thats way its not even in the same playing field as the cobra. But the numbers stock for stock 390 hp and 390 tq VS 385 hp and 450 tq are neck and neck. I need counts on who thinks the lightning motor could pull afew more ponys than the snake.

enignes are like air pumps, and the more air in the more hp out!lightning heads will never be 4v heads, thus they cant flow as much with the same mods of course.Think about it.Yes the 5.4 has more volume but why didnt ford just put the lightning mill in the 07 shelby=======(FLOWWWW)!

The Cobra's with the 4V heads make more HP, go over to svtperformance.com and look around and you will see. The lightnings would benefit from a stage 3 MPH race port on the 2V heads.

Lightnings are cursed with those lovely 2v heads. Dollar for Dollar the Cobra will make more power.

The difference between the heads more than consumes the difference in displacement. IMO - Ford's 2v heads are some of the worst engineering they've ever done.

More mods only make theCobra advantegegreater. Put a Whipple on the Cobra and even a the big 2.6L KB on the Lightning won't be able to touch it.

+2 the heads are what makes or breaks the motor, not that the lightning motor breaks, but the 4v is just a better concept, design, and flow. the 4v ftw

Isn't the Triton 5.4 a 3-valve configuration?? If so, why didn't they use that in the Lightning??

Yeah the cobra does have the greatest heads but how much power could the 2v heads get after port and polish with a 3 way valve job. Is it worth the $1200 bucks.And i (irollsaleen) the 07 GT500 is a 5.4 mill but with a 4v so it has the best of two worlds, just in case it slipped your mind!

I'd put my money on the 03/04 cobra motor.. They have sooo much potential... Old schoolers would call the factory bottom end a "built motor" and with those heads and a little more boost they make crazy power.
