Default why only 300rwhp?

I'm just wondering why our 2v engines can't reach numbers over 300rwhp naturally aspirated? My brother has a old 289ci that is making about 500hp(supposed to atleast) at the motor N/A. What I'm wondering is why can't our "up with the technology" engines beat those old pushrod engines in power?

500 hp is alot of hp for a 289... is possible though... fully built everything that is.... well... there are a few cars on here that have over 300rwhp n/a... code03gt has 342rwhp... and zw99gt has 320rwhp and there are many others with over the 300 mark...

Im well over 300 rwhp NA. But to answer your question small bore, cost savings by manufactures, fuel injection.

You want to make power slap a carb on and bore and stroke it.

the 289 is fords best motor, it will rev to 7000 and still keep going, and there are so many parts for it, and the block is real stout. that block can handle more hp than the 5.0 block. but the 4.6 is a little more complicated, the ohc is what kills everything, but with some ported pi heads and stage cams, and a nice intake to match 300 rwhp with a good tune is right there.

they didn't have the emissions bull **** we have now adays. also they try to be cost effective too. for the great majority of the mustangs sold will ever be touched more than a cai or cat back. but also push rod engines are more efficient and making big numbers. we just have too many regualtions now adays. ppl would complain the the ride was too rough etc. etc.

Because a coffee stirrer/straw thing flows better than our heads. Also the fact that nobody makes aftermarket heads for our cars. All we have are pos ported heads You look at all those fast pushrod motors and they'll always have aftermarket heads. Well teh LS1 owns stock so maybe not them[&:]

because if i understand it right....the heads are small and will only allow a small valve.

The 2v was neglected, and will continue to be, except more so now that the 3v is here and is a success.
