Default Shifter problem

My buddy just called me and said his shifter felt like it was all loose and wobbley, even in gear. I thought his handle just might be loose but it isnt. I really cant think what would make it do that because that doesnt sound like a problem with the syncro's. He has a saleen with a pro 5.0 shifter and I figured I would get on here and try and help him out so you guys have any thoughts?

Did he make sure to transfer the plastic cup from the stock shifter ball to the ball of the Pro 5.0? The plastic cup makes sure the ball fits nicely into the tranmission, if that is not on it would make everything feel loose.

Well he bought the car with the shifter in it. I have the MGW in mine and im trying to help him on what I know from installing that but he is a few hours away from me right now. He said he shifted it pretty hard last night and it started doing it this morning. I told him to check out the stops and such.
