im no expert but as far as i know there arent any major power differences between the 99-04 mustang gts. there are hardly any physical differences lol. if i were you i would save up for a 03-04 cobra or a mach 1. im not saying theres anything wrong with the gt...i love mine and theres not much i would trade it for...but theres nothing wrong with buying a faster car!

ill get a 01.5 and up. They have a stronger tranny and i think the gearing is slightly better if I am correct in the 3650. but that wouldnt be enuff to tell a diffrence in the 2. The power level is identical in the all the models and stock for stock is always adrivers race

99-early01 gt's have a t45 tranny

mid 01-04 gt's have the tr3650 tranny and a different block, they are identical but made by different companies i believe.

otherwise the differences are cosmetic and features that come with the car. if i were you id look for a 96-98 cobra, but thats just me.... sometimes i wish i had gone that route instead.

Transmission differences 99-01 (I believe) have the T-45 and 01-04 (once again, I believe) have the 3650, which is a stronger transmission.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: Blah, slow typer...

i like the look of 99-04 better, and insurance reasons are why i dont want to go to a cobra, although i would love it but being a 19 yr old insurance blows

I'm pretty sure that's just an urban myth. The only difference is the changed hood/ head lights and the transmission. Both the T-45 and 3650 are pretty crappy and it's up in the air which one is "better." I believe they both have the same gearing except I heard the 3650 has a longer 5th gear.

I have heard something like that before but i dont think it would make a noticeable diffrence.

ya there are two different engine codes on these models if the eighth digit in your vin is an x your motor is a windsor and if its a w your motor is a romeo. the romeo plant wasnt supply the demand to ford had to utilize the windsor plant to keep up. the windsor plant was making the motor for the ford truck at the time and so there was some small difference in the two motor...i cant remember what it was but maybe someone else can.
