I was reading directions and it said to change the transmission fluid, is this necessary. Anyone have tips?

They only highly suggest it since it is very easy to pour it in through the base of the shifter.. and most people can drive a car its whole life and not change the fluid..

So was the install relatively easy for a mechanically declined person?

yes, just unbolt stock and rebolt mgw. easy, took me about a hour because i had to stop and jack the car up and drain the tranny fluid in the middle.
