Default Are car stereo subs a bad idea?

I've been thinking of putting some subs in my car.. The thing is that I'm not sure if they will weigh my car down. Does anyone know if they are worth putting in or not... Thanx

Maybe I'm thinking of this the wrong way, but... since the box has few choices and set's pretty much over the rear tires, maybe it help a tiny little bit with traction? I don't think that everything will come close to even weighting 100lbs or less.

uhhh...do you want good sound?....it is worth an extra 30 pounds in MY book...you can do a 1 amp 1 sub set-up and not even add that much...post this in the A/V section for better answers

get yourself a new head unit, nice powerful 4channel amp, some nice front components, (ditch the back speakers), 1 10" or 12" sub, box and wiring and you are good to go!

and yes that guy has the right idea...after i got my system put in i noticed that the rear end seemed a bit more planted...and i don't have a rear swaybar....not MUCH but i noticed it

Yea... Thats true. We'll if I'm gonna do something, I'm gonna do it all the way so I'll probably be running like 1000watts RMS so its gonna be some bigass subs and a bigass box. I'm not exactly sure how much weight that is but it's not the average setup.. I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it. Then if it isnt worth it I'll just sell it hehe...

i have 1 10in sub in my car, i like it. its enough bass for inside the car and complements the mach460 nicely. i dont street race or drag race or race at all so it doesnt hurt performance to me. i think it was worth the install, but i wouldnt have put it in if i didnt already have it sitting in my basement. i would do performance parts first.

I'll get a new head unit but I've got the Mach460 setup so I'll keep the component system.

you don't need 1000w to sound good or have loud bass...i am runninga 300w 4 channel Alpine amp to my Type-R components and rear speakers...1000w amp to my 2 10: Type-R subs...and it is too loud for me

i'm actually going to be getting new front speakers and selling all four of my Type-R stuff....then bridging my 4ch amp to power the fronts...then selling my subs and going to one better 12" sub

If you have the mach stero system your dreams of a bigass box may come to a sudden end. My buddy had the same thoughts, and had to have a custom box made to fit under the mach system in the back W/ 12's JL's.

ditch the 460!!!...you can have a complete system for under 600 bucks (if you install it yourself) and it will be NIGHT and DAY
