porting

RE: porting
Porting would not be the first thing I'd do, ifact I wouldn't bother unless I was completely re-doing the top-end and intake--there is no "magic" to be had in it, and as I stated in an earlier posting it's really something to be done to a) either match up some very poorly matched componenets, or b) one the last things you'd do to get that very last bit of performance from an engine.Racers do this routinely to get that last 0.01 secondoff 1/4 mile or lap times, true enthusiasts (gearheads) do it because they are nut cases (I had a '63 Vette with a ported/polished/blueprinted injected 327), and a lot of people do it because they don't know any better. Unless something is very wrong, porting will make only barelynoticable power gains, and then generally only at the highest RPMs where flow becomes a limiting factor. There are a lot of other things (such as FI, or maybe a Trick-Flow manifold [jury's sort of out on this]) that you could spend the money on AND get kick-in-the-pants power increases...
