Default New Member, New Stang, New mods... Question

Howdy gang.

I am a fist time poster here, but I have been trolling the boards since I purchased my 2004 GT 5-speed about a month and a half ago. I know, I know.... the 05's were coming, but I could not pass up the deal I got on my car. After a week of arguing, I got out the door for 19,200 (new).

Anyhow, as all of you know.... NOTHING is ever good enough from the factory. My first mod was to install a set of Magnapaks. Wow, those sound nice. Next, I went with a Tunable Inductions CAI. Hands down the best CAI out there.
Next mod was a Steeda Tri-Ax. Boy, that turned a already fun car to drive into a BLAST.

Now, my question. After running 3 tanks of 91 octane (best there is in San Diego, CA), I installed the performance tune from my Diablosport Predator. Now, their website says that I need to run 91 octane or better, but the manual says that 91 may cause detonation (pinging). While my car feels like a fire has been lit under its ***, I am worried. I don't hear any audible pinging, but I am a bit paranoid. Would you guys retard the timing 10% as the manual suggest just to be safe, or would you trust your ears?

I can't believe the difference the predator makes in low/mid range. It really feels like I have gained a significant amount of torque.

Anyhow, thanks from the silent reader. You guys keep me informed and entertained.

Josh.

Thanks for removing my screw-up mdvaldosta. I should point out that my price did include the 3k factory rebate. The sticker was 26900. I got invoice, minus hold back, minus rebate plus 1.5% profit margin. The only reason they went for it was the recent lack of intrest in the 04's. Infact, the lowest I have ever sucessfully gone on profit margin was 3% when doing hold back buying.

By the way.... I feel like I know your car personally, mdvaldosta. After reading your posts about grill delete and chin spoiler... guess what I did .

What manual are you reffering to? I've never heard of higher octane causing detination. Its low grade gas that causes that.

The diablo tuner should take care of any detonation problems. If the tuner tells you to run 91 octane, its because it configured the computer to run on 91. And like MD said, if you were pinging you would definatly know it. Remember, the higher the octane, the more resistant to combustion the fuel is.

His manual says run "91 or better"... he's running at the bare minimum due to what he can find... he's wondering if he's cutting it too close at the bare minimum... from the sound of it (no pun intended!), he's fine!

[sm=exactly.gif] Thanks for rephrasing that for me Vert_Lover. I am just concerned that 91 octane is to low for the performance tune.
