Default Alignment

Earlyer this week I got my car aligned after the suspension install. the guy said he was able to get oneside all the way in and one side was borderline. He was thinking it was going to pull to the left, but it has zero pull either way.

I am not sure if I need caster/camber plates or not... I don't want to wear the tires out but if I don't need them its kinda expensive for nothing.

I've got caster camber plates and those cost me more for ailignment services. Unless you plan on cornering hard, it is not worth it..............

it doesn't make sense he could get one side and not the other though based on what you told me you don't need to get c/c plates just keep and eye to see if it pulls and an unusal amount of wear....but I think you will be fine

Hey Sitn
Do you think the alignment technician is trying to pull a fast one on 2000GT? I have never herd of that either, where someone can align one side and not the other.........

Hey Sitn

Manufacturing differences happen all the time and that's probably what he means by "boderline" on one side.
For example, let's say with the factory parts the alignment was able to be adjusted within spec and one side had all the adjustments dead center as far as +/- are concerned. IOW you still had a lot of adjustment either way, on one side of the car.

Now let's go to the other side and that one was also able to be adjusted witin factory spec, with factory parts, however that sides adjustment screws/bolts positioning were not dead center on and you had more adjustment one way than the other one.
The car will be in perfect adjustment and fine with factory parts.

However, if you put aftermarket parts on the car, you may be able to adjust one side to compensate, but you may not be able to get enough adjustment on the other side to make up the difference on the new parts.
Henceforth the need for plates and other custom parts that allow more range of adjustment than factory parts do.

This is also the reason why the current FWD with non-adjustable angles suck.

I would inflate the tires to spec, fill the gas tank and have the angles checked by another shop.
Depending upon what angle may or may not be out, the car might still track straight but you will be tearing your tires up
and won't realize it until it's too late.

Sadly wheel alignment is a lost art these days and it's difficult to find a shop that really knows what it is doing.

Good luck!
