99-04 gts are made to run off 87 octane or regular.

I would never stick 87 in my car! I use only 91 or if 93 is on sale! The only reason I don't use 87 is because I live in NY and they water the gas down with ethanol..up to 23% for winter and 17% for summer. State Law allows this.total BS. Obviously a money maker, although they claim is saves on overall fuel consumption by burning the ethanol which ny the way burns 100x faster than gasline itself..lol 87 pings under pressure especially when warmed up! My Truck is the same way. Maybe it's how hard I drive, but never used 87. It's like putting conventional oil in your car versus semi or full sythetic! Sure it'll do the trick, but not for long haul

When it comes to gas in my stang, it likes Super-unleaded or higher. I put reg in once, the eng started pinging. Never again i will buy reg. Even the manual says to use unleaded or above. Just call me a dumbass..........[8D]. It gets very costly out here in Cali to keep my stang running but it is worth it!!!!!!

I say if your car runs good on 87 stick with it. I only changed to premium when I changed the timing with a Diablo.

Ford states to use ONLY regular unleaded! NO high octane! Ford say's the car was tuned for this fuel, and may hurt performance to use high octane fuel! I go with Ford!

unless you mod it.....i believe most of the tuners have a 91 octane requirement.......I have to run 93[8D]

Running higher than 87 will do absolutly nothing for your car on a stock tune. If your car is pinging with 87 something is wrong with the car.

Ethanol has a HIGHER octane rating than regular gasoline. The only bad part about ethanol is the btu per unit is less, so you make less power on the same amount of gas.

Alot of the higher performance guys, espcailly ones wanting to run higher compression + FI, are switching over to ethanol. Its like 110+ if you run straight ethanol, and to get over the BTU problem you just spray ALOT more of it in there (bigger fuel system).
