Default 3.73 or 4.10?

What do you think is best for a 5 speed? (98 GT). If you think other gears are necessary please note. Thanks in advance.

I have 4:10's on my car, it made it alot quicker for sure but the gears are pretty short. If you plan on keeping it all motor I say 4:10. If not, like a blower or something, go with 3:73

If you drive it as a daily driver then get the 3:73's and only get FORd Racing. They are so much easier to install. They go right in with no haslle as long as you get the origional spacer off the stock pinion gear!
I love how everyone says 4"10's or nothing. In a 5spd 98 you'll be shifting into second before you get through an intersection! 1st gear is almost useless. I had 3.27's stock and ran 2250rpms at 80, so3:73's raises your motor up 300rpms at 80mph and 4:10's raise it another 300 over the 3.73's. So, 4.10's raise your rpms 600rpms at 80mph if you had 3.27's stock. You'll be at almost 3,000rpms at 80! I hope you understood....lol
This is what you will be doing with you gas....[sm=alcoholic.gif]

wow, so much bad info right here..
1) unless you are doing the install, it doesn't matter about gears.. you're going to pay the same price regardless of brand..
2) 4.10's do not raise rpms 300 over 3.73's... I have 3.73 with my t45 and turn 3K at 90 mph..
with the gear calc it shows that at 3K you will be doing 85 mph... Big difference in gas mileage? I think not
This gear calc is very accurate and you can use it to see gears/ compare them..

edit: If "I" were to do it all over again, I would have 4.30's in there and not thought twice about it.. I only got 3.73's when people on this board "suggested" what was best and of course I listened[:@][:@]. That was quite awhile ago and we have a lot of new members, and now things have changed and they are all "suggesting" 4.10's..
