HP numbers with supercharger on 98
Hello, I am new to the forums and had a quick question. I have a 1998 GT with only a cold air and exhaust upgrades. I am looking to buy a supercharger probably either Kenne-Bell or Vortech. I was wondering what kind of HP numbers I would be looking at and if possible 1/4 mile times. Thanks!

it all depends on how you drive and how much boost you shove at it. your talking major differences in blower read up on the differences and see whats right for you. typically with a s/c youll get a percentage amount of increase. lets say you have 225 at the wheels (i think thats what a 98 had stock) the take 80% of that and add it to your total. but 1/4 times depends on tires suspention how you drive etc.

Well i'd rather not change the fuel system too much (besides a larger fuel pump) and as far as boost goes prob just 6 -8 psi is what i was thinking, nothing to major. I'm wanting to keep the car for a long time so i don't want to overwork the ehgine too much. Does that help with number estimates?

Just throw in a new filter and a larger pump, that's about all you need to do anyway.
How much power it will make at 6-8 PSI will depend on what other mods, what altitude, how good in a state of tune the motor is, how efficient the drive train is, etc. Just too many variables to say it'll make XXX hp at the wheels.

its not that simple, its not a certain % across the board, different for different blowers and if its intercooled or not and at what boost. 6 psi non-intercooled would add about 35% more hp, 8 psi about 40% - intercooled 8psi would add about 50% ... its diminishing returns from their due to blower efficiency and heat. 1 atmosphere = 14.7 psi, so at 14.7 you would theoretically double engine hp if air temp remained the same and the blower could flow enough cfm to support the hp level without restricting it - but none can so it doesn't ever work out that way and a non-intercooled setup at even just 8 psi is gonna add 100 degrees to the outlet temp of the air, 100* = about 10% loss in hp from less dense air and less timing being run, not to mention the crank power needed to run the blower.
So, 8 psi (which is safe) from a vortec expect about a 35 - 40 % increase in power non-intercooled, which would be about 315 to the flywheel on an otherwise stock motor (yep thats all). Other mods like exhaust would dramatically increase the power, as their gains would be magnified by the blower.

yea i think the sites estimate 300 hp and 345 tq on a completely stock engine for the 98's but bolt on's will make about 2x the power with a blower than on a naturally aspirated engine.
