couple of questions on my 99 GT. Comparing power/ changing gears? Help
Hey this weekend i picked up a 99 mustang gt 5-speed, it has full flowmaster exhaust (no headers), and a k&n filter. It sounds like the next best thing to to would be gears? how hard is it to change gears out and how much does it cost all together?
Next how do the 99-01 GT's compare to the 96-98 cobras and the 05+ mustang GT's? im talking like 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, ive read that the 99 gt's and the 96 cobras are really close but some say there not so im just curious what to expect if i line up next to either of these cars. thanks in advance, Holmes

the cobras and them are pretty damn close... but the cobra will respond better to mods due to the 4v heads and the gt only having 2v heads. and the 99-04 gt's will be spanked by a 05 so im told... i drove the 05 and it didnt feel much different... but they are suppose to be a few tenths ahead... i have a friend with full bolt ons and he beat an 05 gt.

thanks yeah i heard that the 99 gt with be really close with a 96 cobra stock, but ive had people try and tell me the cobra will spank the gt.... anyways i only have full flowmasters and a k&n filter, not really sure whats the best mod to do next sound like maybe some 3.73's or something

yeah im thinkin some 3.73's i still want decent highway but 4.10's will be something to think about, Looking at numbers and what not it looks like the 99 gt stays really close with the cobra stock but i got this guy on another forum where i was talkin bout what kinda car to get sayin that the cobra will smoke the GT so it got me kinda wondering although i dont really believe him..... maybe ill have to go looking for cobras haha

well i have 4.10's and my highway mpg isn't really any diff in my car... I would suggest 4.10s and then deff get it tuned so that the speedo is set right as well as getting the most of you other mods!

I've always been told to go with the lowest gear that you can deal with, the lower the better (for dragracing that is). If you don't mind turning a little more rpm's on the highway go 4.10 On your exhaust, is it just a flowmaster catback? If it is, I would suggest getting some sort of aftermarket mid-pipe. The stock mid-pipe has like six cats on it[:'(] That will free up some power. If you plan on getting long-tube headers I would wait and change the midpipe then b/c you have to use a shorty style pipe to bolt up to the headers. Or you could just go w/ a supercharger or turbocharger[8D], either would be a good choice.
