Default Single Turbo Question

Is it absolutely necesarry to merge both sides of exhaust to run to a single turbo? Why couldnt you just use one side? Would it just have longer lag times?Like one side just be regular and the other lead to a turbo.

it wouldnt be as efficient with only one header going to it... and the car would run weird probably cuz of the flow on one side is lessrestrictive than the other.

I can't remember the links but there are more and more people going with remote turbo setups which means they are running single exhaust to the trunk area and sectioning off part of the trunk and puttin the turbo there. They run a self contained oil system back there and the boost pipe that goes to the intake acts as an intercooler. Supposed to be hardly any turbo lag and the turbo stays a lot cooler and lasts longer
