Default Ever drove a C4 Vette-not too impressive

I have been test driving used (obviously) C4 Corvettes for the past 3 weeks andother than a 1990 with a 6 speed that had ALL the emissions equipment removed/ no cat exhaust/ aftermarket fuel regulator etc-they are really pretty doggy cars. I always thought they were like this esoteric cult car that you had to be lucky to own.Unless you get an LT-1with 300 hp most of the garden variety350's have about 240 hp. Big deal. A 94-98 Gt with gears and the right mods probably wont beat the vette but it wont get crazy spanked either. Plus the Mustangs areaMUCH more livable all around car without all the electrical gremlins and split rear axle issues that corvettes all seem to have. The corvettes do handle good butI'd hate to loose tractionat warp speed in a turn-seems like it would just let go and freakin kill you...Literally. A 99 and up Gt with gearing and 260 hp 281 cubic inch engine gives better entertainment and has a back seat and trunk. I may still pick up a C$ but it has to be cheap enough or it may just be a time bomb money pit that no one wants to work on. Bottom line these Mustang GTs are a real value for what they bring to the table as well rounded fun cars that are pretty durable.

Amen. I started looking around and I was surprised at how cheap the C4 vettes are. Then I noticed that they have a lot of electrical isssues and even engine releated issues which surprised me from a "good ole chevy 350". Apparently head gaskets(aluminum heads)and intake manifold gaskets are the norm. WTF?? The 4.6 Fords are pretty darn good othet than the cracking plastic intake on early ones. Plus the 8.8 rear is very good and fairly easy to service.

I'll tell you what I did drive last saturday though that may not look like much but you should run and hide from if your ever gonna race against it.... A late model GTO with either the 350 hp or 400 hp and a six speed. That car will flat out SPANK just about anything out there. Most anything. Freakin fast car..

c4 wasn't the best years for the corvette... they didn't really start pulling outta the shadows until the ZR1's debut... c4's are a great platform to start on... but for corvettes... they just don't live up to the name... there were electrical problems with the digital guages for 84 to I think it was 87 (forgive, it's been a while since I've studied my corvettes) and the crossfire uinjection motors were total dogs.... If you want a c4... get a 90-96.

And if you think that a stock goat, regardless of it being a 6.0 or 5.7, is a "freaking fast car" you have never been in a really fast car.

GTO FTL

Go out and testdrive a LS1 powered C5 and see what you think, completely different car. The earlyer model 350s have NOTHING on the LS1 sieres. Hell, I completely SPANKED a mid 70s vette with a 383 stroker, aluminum heads, intake, etc etc etc. I wouldn't dream of racing a H/C/I ls1 powered car (vette or fbody).

hmm... sounds like a dog of a vette... I've seen a 8-71ed c3 that ran a high 13... these big motor cars have no top-end to finish out the quarter... sure they can pull out a redwood tree... but they can't get out of their own shadow...
