Balljoints SUCK!!!

RE: Balljoints SUCK!!!
I took the whole thing off and put it under a 20 ton press and it still took 20 minutes to press out the driver side. Maybe there was an easier way, but my experience has been that if I take the easy way initially.... it costs me twice as much time and money in the long run.

Whatever.... 20 min my A$$. It takes 20 minutes just to lift the car, pull the wheels and break down the brakes. If you only spent 20 minutes replacing your balljoints, you did a half assed job. To completely break everything down, remove the spindle, take out the springsdrop the A arm, pull the power steering, and press out the old joints and put new ones in and rebuild it all????? I call BS. Impossible.

I did mine in 20 minutes. ... With a lift and air tools.

You wouldstarve on flat rate. If you think you have to do all of that, you're an ***. Ball joints are a 20 minute job if you know what you're doing. Don't get upset because you can't work on cars.

I might not have super good mechanical prowess, but in talking to guy that works on this base, that used to work for SVT, he agrees that 7 hours was a bit extreme by about 2 hours, but it is physically impossible to do ball joints correctly or incorrectly in 20 minutes. The AVERAGE time for the install (if done correctly is2 1/2-5 hours) So go tell your 20 minute superstar story some one else that will believe it, I am all stocked up on BullSh!t, so I am not buying any here.

So we shall just agree to disagree. I do however value your input on the other subjects I have posted about, no hard feelings.
On the subject of mechanical stuff, I am looking at a new limited slip rear differential. Would this negate the need for new gears, or are they 2 separate things???

When you buy a new LSD, you can get just the rebuild kit with all clutch packs and bearings, or you can go as far as buying a whole rear end. Usually when you buy a new carrier, yes, the ring and pinion come with.

tool fan: To answer your question though, they are 2 separate but equal pieces in the rear diff.. Most people, when they upgrade the gears, do an entire rebuild of the diff, since it is a PITA job... While you're in there, if you're even thinking about upgrading your center section, it'd be a good idea to purchase/install new gears, since it's going to cost you 2x for going in there twice. (Same procedure to do both, since you have to attach the Ring gear to the Center section, and still reshim everything).

Sheeeeit sounds to damn complicated, but I am a cheap a$$ and don't like to pay people to do stuff I could learn how to do, so I guess I should think long and hard before I decide to start pulling bolts???? LOL
