Default How to change oil filter without mess

How do you guys change your oil filter without making a huge mess? I try putting a bag around it and it works ok i guess but are there any other better ways?

No not really. I put my oil pan under the area of mine to catch whatever runs out.

poke a hole in the filter with a nail and let the oil
drain into a container.

Make sure u drain oil first before removing filter. There shouldn't be too much coming out of the filter areaonce it is drained, but to be on the safe side use kitty litter and place an oil pan on top of litter.

Put the kitty litter on the floor of your garage or wherever you're draining. That'll catch and soak up the oil, that does not make it to the pan.

Please don't throw the oil away in the garbage or in the ground, take it to your nearest shop and dispose of it properly.

Yes that does work. But loosen the filter just a little bit before you do that because if you can`t get the filter off, then your fcuked.

If your filter is stuck then use a screwdriver...poke a hole straight through the filter with a screwdriver then turn (righty tighty, lefty loosey...lmao)

Make a trough out of a piece of stiff cardboard, wedge it under the filter and point the other end toward your drain pain.
A folded up Fedex overnight envelope works great for this.
Lossen the filter until it starts to drain and let it go until it stops.
Unscrew the filter the rest of the way.

Works great for me.
