Default bogging

AT 40-45 mph just cruising my car kinda "bogs" a little bit. Is this because my fuel filter is 8k past due, or is it because my converter locks up around then and the car doesn't know what to do? Or, is it because of both reasons? Or is it because of neither?

Btw that's the only periodic maintenance that I haven't done![>:]
(Time is money...)

im assuming your in 2nd gear, which is 1.55 ratio for us autos, which at 40-45 mph, gets you poor results.

now if your talking about the end of first gear, thats another problem on its own, would guess tune up.

*edit*

so a remedy to you having a long *** 2nd gear that doesnt grab much until 55-60, you need steeper gears in the rear (3.73's or 4:10's) or you need to convert to a 5-spd which is what im in the process of considering.

Yeah....what gear are you in? I usually am in 4th at about 40-45 (premium is expensive). If I want to speed up, i either have to 1) wait for eternity or 2) downshift. It could just be you're in too high of a gear and just dont realize it.

thanks guys
im just in D cruising when this happens im pretty sure it goes into o/d to save on gas...but i think its still at high enough rpms to where it shouldnt bog

i asked about the torque converter cuz thats what the mech at the dealership said when i took it in for a flush (already there so i just asked him) its pretty effin annoying because most places around here are 45 and i dont speed cuz im a kid in a red, loud mustang so i cant speed lol

Crusing at 40-45 your definetly in 4th gear with the converter locked up. It will feel sluggish until it unlocks and kicks down gears. At 40-45 I usually cruise around in 5th gear and if I tried to floor it, it would move like a pregnant turtle.

Sounds like you're easing onto the pedal. The computer will respond more readily to a quicker motion (go the same distance down, just quicker). My Explorer does the same thing at that speed. Shift kits help, too.
