I used the pushpins. They were a pain in the *** but they've held strong. I have a few gaps though, and I'm thinking about pulling them and replacing them with some good bolts and lock washers.

Sorry, you guys are right, they were 1/4", my mistake.

Rather than just using the 20 or however many that it came with, I had added about 5 extra push pins into it and I have not had any problems with it.
