Default is superchargin just a setup to blow your bottom end

so im getting a vortech setup soon for my 02GT engine, anyways, im worried once i drop this engine in, the bottom end is gonna go, because im prob gonna be pushing close to 400rwhp. I was curious, what aspect of the bottom end of our engines are typically the failure point for sub 500hp engines, can i just upgrade to a cobra crank and call it a day or do i need rods and pistons? thanks guys

Well over a year here with 400rwhp and no problems yet- at least catastrophic. The large amount of oil in my separator tells me that my rings probably arnt in tip top shape...but she still runs great! Normally the first things to go out on our cars is the Rods...sometimes the pistons. Its really all in the tune, and in how much abuse the car sees.

The rods are the weak point, not the crank.

However, at 400 WHP you will not have problems (or should not) with a good tune. I am making about 420 WHP currently and have been doing so for a year on a completely stock bottom end.

rods? so why do peopel uprgade to the forged crank?

i have the engine out now, i just feel it would be a major backtrack to have the crank go when I had already installed the engine. the rods and pistons are a whole new beast, thats much more intensive(stuff i cant doo)

they get a forged crank when they get rods and pistons because the crank is the last thing to go and normally it all gets balanced together.. it will also rev higher and handle more power...

Wait, you're saying you have the ability to change your crank, but not rods/pistons. Am I missing something there?

well I would need a machine shop to take down the egg shape off the cylenders before i upgraded the pistons, and i dont have the capabilities or knowledge to do that

when i priced it out, your looking at about 1500 for a quality forged rebuild kit, then you need to have the block machined and installed, so abotu 2800-3100
