Default Gears and mpg

hey guys,

i hope this was not already asked, but the search ability s*cks.

If i just change gears on a stock gt, what should i expect for mpg.

http://tchracing.com/tech/gearcalc.php

3.27@ 75mph =1.99rpm
3.71 @ 75mph =2.26rpm
4.10 @ 75mph =2.50rpm

Does anyone know approx. the diff in mpg between the gears? Is it signifigant? My mechanic recommended me to not go with 4.10s since i'm doing a lot of highway and i'm not a dragster.

thanks

That really not that bad.

And the performance difference between 3.73s and 4.10sis probably worth it.

I'd say yes, if you are a 5 speed, autos, not so much. That is unless you will ever want to sustain 100 mph for any amount of time.

I haven't had my 4.10's long enough to check mileage, but the rpms aren't toooo bad, and the pull is great.

Gears aren't the culprit for bad gas mileage, you're right foot is, N/A i would go ***** to the walls 4.30s

If you drive a lot think about this long and hard--despite the common wisdom 3.73s will cost 2-3 MPG at highway speeds, 4.10's 2.5-4 MPG.. Premium is going to be $3.50 to $4.00 a gallon by this time next year (maybe sooner/maybe more)--if all goes well. If the ********* get us into anything more than a 90 second war with Iran then we'll all be sitting in line waiting to pay $10/gallon...
