Default Easiest way to tell if have performance chip?

Hello this might be a silly question, but i purchased a used 98 GT a couple months ago. I am unable to contact him and he made a lot of modifications to the car. The reason I ask about the chip is becuause when I use 91 octane fuel, the car seems to run alot better and have more power. I was wondering what the easiest way to check for a chip is. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If it's automatic, you'll probably knowtice some pretty hard shifts, and the down shift from 2 to 1 is pretty hard too. also, under a normal load, the trans wont shift till roud 3000, atlest that's the way it is on my car.

pop off the pass side kick panel pull out the ecu and see if theirs a chip on it. ecu's can be recalibrated without chips too btw.

Most cars run better with higher octane anyway.

Your question is not silly at all. I bought a used 91 camaro RS 305 TBI back in the day and ordered a hypertech power chip. When I switched them out, it was the same damn chip I just got!! I was so pissed and the car was still slow.

And how is this you say?
You can run higher timing/compression with higher octane fuel.
Even a stock engine benefits from higher octane because the flame burns more efficient which, in turn, produces more power....maybe not much....

NO a stock engine will not run better with higher octane fuel!!! The engine will run WORSE with a high octane gas because of the SLOWER propagation of the flame front. This is the reason to use high octane fuel in the first place.
