Pinging on hard acceleration??

RE: Pinging on hard acceleration??
Just got finished taking the intake off and looking down the intake and there was a crap load of carbon on the valves. We soaked them with solvent, put it back together, cleaned the injectors with 70 psi injector cleaner and now it runs like an *** raped ape. The ping is gone and it idles so much better. The fuel pump is on it's last leg, I noticed the other day it had a long start a couple of times and now it is sceaming for mercy a little more than before.

So theoretically, it could have been all of the variables, or just one... It's good that at least the pinging is gone, however, you may want to do a compression test, just to make sure things are still kosher, and that you're not just feeling the difference of timing not being pulled as a result of the pinging, or if things are tip-top..

RE: Pinging on hard acceleration??
I don't think I will need to do that due to how good it runs at this point. I do know the next thing that I need to do is replace the fuel pump. I put a fuel pressure gauge back on last night and had good idle pressure then when I turned off the engine it leaked down to 0 psi. KOEO and it pumped back up and leaked back down but it is very intermittent. Fords are so known for the fuel pumps leaking down and going tit's up.Now it's a matter of a Ford pump or aftermarket performance pump. I have no plans of supercharging the car but I will be doing PI heads at some point in the near future.
