Default !?Automatic Tranny Question?!

Hey everyone-

I have a 03 GT, automatic (4R70W), with about 37,000 miles on her. Bought it used. Doesn't seem to be beaten the heck out of!Its a great ride and there are no MAJOR issues with it - at the time. I'm getting about 21 mpg and love it to death. I don't understand one thing. The transmission (I think), jerks when I get off the gas sometimes after acceleration into 3rd gear. Also when going up an incline into 3rd gear. It will only make that feeling 1-2 then its gone.It switches gears fine and goes into overdrive easily. Itdoes not bang or thud but it seems as though if there is a low load on it and not accelerating moderately it does this "dance" as I call it! whenever you take your foot completely off the gas. It doesn't feel likeslipping and many Ford dealers gave me a driveshaft technical bulliten complaint on this year Mustang. There seems to be some play in the driveshaft itself and gives the driver a uncomfortable jerk and/or bangfeeling (but who knows if this is the issue). Is this a major issue with the tranny or just a feeling when there is a lower load on this specificgear?

Thanks alot -

it jerks between 40-45 doesnt it? i went to the ford dealer about this and the head guy in the service dept rode with me and said it was cuz the torque converter locks up around there and if you are just cruising there its trying to "decide" what to do...now i dont know if its true or not cuz i havent been in another auto that does it...

btw i have 37k also [&o] does yours whine in first gear?

Same here 01 GT Vert 35,000 miles. I changed the transmission fluid like ford asked for in themaint. scheduleand that did help a bit, but it still does it, just not as bad. I have an extended warranty too, maybe I should ask them to check it out? Did anyone out there every get this fixed on their car? Please let me know!

I had the same thing happen to mine and when I took it into the dealer they rebuilt the whole tranny and the service manager told me it was the Overdrive belt or gear that was causing the slight jerks at 40-45. I found if you take the car out of OD it eliminates the problem.

Hey everyone!!! I can't believe this happens to many other autos.....Yes mine whines in first gear as well! And taking it out of over drive does eliminate the jerking feel. As long as it is not a sign of failing parts lol I'll just let her be.....and I love Fords BUT THE DEALERSHIPS CAN GET ON MY NERVES SOMETIMES[:@]

Thanks a million for all your quick responses!

Mine does it to. But...now that my tune firmed up my shift points so much, it jerks every time I change gears, up or down[8D]

Yep...that's how I do it. City driving OD off...highway OD on.
