Default Which is more fuel efficient?

Which is more fuel efficent... driving in third gear at about 1800 RPM's and only having to give it slight gas to speed up if needed or driving in fourth gear at about 1100 RPM's and having to give it a lot of gas to speed up?

It seems like the latter would be better, but I don't know if having to step on the gas more is using a lot of gas to get up to speed.

Myowner's manual says to shift at 15 MPH, then at 24 MPH, then at 35 MPH, and then at 45 MPH.

Ya, but which is more fuel efficient giving it more gas in a higher gear at lower RPM's or giving it less gas in a lower gear at higher RPM's?

I would go with 3rd gear in that case. My car doesn't really like to run under 1500 when I'm driving around it seems to bog down and not have any throttle response. Now if it was a little higher say 2100 in 3rd and 1400 in 4th then I'd cruise around n fourth

well im guessing you have a 5 speed...but its always gonna be more fuel efficient to drive in the highest gear cause the engine is turning at less rpms...at least thats what ive been told.

Ya, but when accelerating, you have to give it much more throttle to get where you want to be. I don't mean like hard acceleration, I mean like maybe 5-10 miles an hour more. Not enough to downshift.

if you're cruising, optimal RPM's are around 1800-2300 give or take... altho the motor is turning faster, it's not wasting anygas, and it's easier to power up and accelerate...
