red white and blue stripes behind pony?
does anyone know the meaning or history of the red white and blue stripes behindthe pony emblem?
I noticed that camaros have a small red white and blue striped emblem on their hoods, is there a connection?

The colored stripes probably do represent the usa colors but i was wondering why only the muscle cars that wear the emblems are mustangs and camarosand not tran-ams or mopar cars, whydoesnt every american car show pride for the usa? (even minivans!)
I just wondered if there was some history behind the emblem?

Probably because Mustang debuted in 1964 and left GM scrambling to come up with a competitor. In 1967 they finally came out with the Camaro, and naturally it bore similar characteristics and badging to the Mustang. After all it was designed as the purest competitor to the Mustang from its design forward.

Note: This is a broadly generalised history of the "pony & bars", there have been exceptions to what is listed below...The pony and red, white, and blue bars have been around since first used as cowl badges on the first Mustang, the 1964-1/2 hardtop, introduced on April 17, 1964 (BTW-we're coming up on birthday #43!!!). The original "spinner" hubcaps also featured a tri-color (RWB or course) band.By '65 it was gone, but it then re-appeared on the '69 Boss 302/429 and Mach 1 grills. It stayed pretty much the same 'til 1976 when those god-awful Mustang IIs came along. It wasn't until 1994 (18 years!) that the pony and barsresurfaced on Steve Saleen's S-351 and the Sport V-6. Saleen continued to use it, but it wasn't until 1999that it appeared onFord factory models; it's been used here and there since then on many OEM models as cowl, wheel center, and I think on the grill of some models.
