it is better to build the basics of your motor, than go for the cheaper fix. You'll always need tunes, headers, better/no cats, good pipes, intake, head work, cams?, forced induction. these are proven power gainers.

nitrous is a power gainer, true, but it gets the job done at the expense of your motor.
no tune = lean motor = piston getting eaten
tune = money, but most people with nitrous kits are too cheap to spend the extra money

it can cause motor failure faster but that is if you dont know what your doing.
that is exactly what I'm talking about. most people are going to buya nitrous kit, install it, and go drive with it. they won't tune it. worse yet, is those people who drive with it all the time constantly using it. nothing against those who use it, but I think nitrous is a RICER fad that got popularized by Fast 'n Furious. build your motor first, then start looking at nitrous. a nice S/C or Turbo would be better though, same bang, but it's constant power, not button power.

a guy in my division bought a 01 Bullit that looked stock except for the Flowmastes and CAI. 2 months later the #5 and #8 cylinder **** the bed. when we took it apart, we discovered someone had very cleverly removed their nitrous system. they had been running lean and the cylinders were shot. he had to get a new block due to the damage. ended up costing him $6k plus
+1
I agree with everything you are saying.

FWIW what gave away the fact that the car had been running N02?
IOW what did the other guy leave behind that helped you discover it?

TIA
there can be nitrous residue on the pistons, oil, just about any part... in the intake... maybe a hole or somethin in the intake

my truck is untuned.. but has a couple of degrees of timing knocked out... had 7 bottles so far and no problems.. compression is still perfect and she runs rich when on spray. a friend is also on a 50 shot in an integra with no problems..

it does depend on the setup though... most people wont richen the motor to prevent damage and think that leaner always means more power..
