FYI after hearing the regular magnaflows they are just as loud as the magnapacks until you get WOT... All the way up to probably 3500 rpms they sound identical!

I don't think I've ever heard the Magnapacks that quiet, and the X pipe makes the Magnaflows a little louder so a stock H pipe is even queiter than this one.
It almost sounds stock.
I heard them live side by side last week, both in 04 GTs with stock H- pipes and the packs were noticeably louder even at idle.
At least to my ears.
I agree though at WOT, or even less, the packs are MUCH louder.
Big difference there.
Maybe headers, X-pipes etc wake the regular Magnaflows up a lot?
I dunno.
I'll let ya know how they sound in my car as soon as I install ttem later this week.

Are the tips too small?. The S197 I seen and heard with Bassani's had no drone that I couls hear when we went for a ride....The tips were 3 1/2 inchers that looked good? however I wonder how a 3 1/2 inch tips would look on my New edge? I knew I would come to this hard decision making on exhaust sooner or later and man it sucks....lol

Thanks so much guys for your honest and knowledgable opinions, I'll check back later....

I've been researching this for a couple of weeks and here are *my* findings for my 2003 GT Vert.
FWIW I wanted +1 over stock sound, stainless , no significant highway drone and a quality system.
I'm not interested in waking up the neighborhood, and I don't like the raspy popping sound that some people do like.
I prefer a deep rumble. quiet at idle and cruising but opens up if and when you stomp on it.
I am using stock H pipe and intend to keep it that way.
I would say in this group at least, my tastes and needs are a LOT different from most of the people here.
Stuff like "straight pipe" is just nutty IMHO.
I got over that one 25 years ago but I do appreciate others expressing what THEY want in their cars.
2006 GT sounds completely different than the 2V motors so you can't compare.
Cobra sounds different as well so you can't compare.
Mach sounds pretty much the same so you can compare.
After much research I went with the Magnaflow standard catback system.
I should have it installed by the weekend so I will let you know.
Understand, this is a TAME system, but you can go with the Magnapack model and it's much louder.
If you want the raspy sound, get an X pipe.
Deeper sound go with or stick with an H pipe.
IMHO there is no comparison in quality between Flowmaster and Bassani.
Bassani, Borla, SLP, Magnaflow are light years ahead in quality.
However, they are also more expensive and some people DO like the Flowmaster sound as well as the look of the tips.
I'm not one of them [8D] (The tips look good though, it's the sound and droning I don't like)
You might also check into Steeda because they make a nice system as well.

I am going to get a cat-back system put on my 99 GT in a couple weeks and I am trying to get some opinions as to which one is made of better quality and what sounds best.?...I have heard a 2006 GT with Bassani's and they sound good, but he also had shorty's and not to mention his is a 3V while mine is a 2V.

RE: Bassani or Flowmaster?
^^^^ You hit the nail on the head that is the sound I want............I guess I would need an x-pipe as well....The shop quoted me $1000. for the cat-back (not including x-pipe)and labor. Does that sound like a fair price? Or is ittoo steep?

Is the Bassani catback up to 800 yet? They shouldn't be charging more than 25 dollars labor on that.
The more I look at it, the more I think they're trying to molest your special places. Order the catback from a reputable website, and if you don't want to install it yourself, offer some local shop 25-50 bucks to do it for you.
I got my mid pipe, MIL's, and catback installed for a mere 40 or 50 dollars.

RE: Bassani or Flowmaster?
Bassani>Flows. If you want to be like every other mustang from 65-07 and every silverado go with the flowmasters. If you want a better quality exhaust with a more unique sound, go bassani.

RE: Bassani or Flowmaster?
You guys comparing Bassani to Flowmaster are funny. That's like asking if you'd rather have a Ford GT or a Mustang GT.
Come on, the Bassani catback is what? $700 or more? The Flowmaster is less than half that. So whoopty-do if the Flows rust out after a few years -- put on another one and you still haven't spent as much as the Bassani.
So if you LIKE the muscle car sound of the Flows, get 'em but just be prepared to replace them (just like a regular exhaust) after a few years. If you like the high-tech sound of the Bassani, spend the big coin and get those -- knowing you won't have to replace it.
Personally -- I like my Flowmasters sound, and since my Stang is only a summer car, I expect them to last longer than I keep the car.
