Default 2001 Cobra problem

Ok, I was driving this morning, not hitting it hard at all, letting my car warm up. Then all of a sudden I hear a pop in the engine area, then it felt like something had fell (not to the ground, but in the engine). Now everytime I push the pedal it I can feel something hitting everytime the engine rotates. It is also making a really lound popping sound when the engine rotates. No overheating, no smell coming from engine, it still drives, but it has lost power as if a cylinder is out or something. It's not ideling out of the norm. It has a little bit more shaking on the side that that loud *** sound is coming from. I shut off car and restarted it twice, obviously it didn't perfectly the same but it started with ease. But theres that loud *** sound.

Any suggestions?

You may have thrown a lifter. I used to be a tch in a Lincoln dealer years ago and we used to get MK 8's in all thetime that would throw lifters due to too thick of oil change from a jiffy lube or someone at home doing it with too thick of oil. Did you just change your oil with anything thicker than what is recomended?

yep...that sounds about right[8D][:-]

in all seriousness...check the plugs, at first i thought it may have been a plug ejecting, but havn't heard much of that on the cobras. Does it have a grinding noise or is it just the pop?

It doesn't really have a grinding noise, just sounds like air is escaping. It still is running smoothly except for the fact that there is less power. I have been changing the oil with Mobile Synthetic, would this kind of oil cause a problem?

I looked around the engine for cracks or anything out of the ordinary, there is nothing. Only when it is on, I can hear it very clearly and the pedal, when pushing, you can feel something every about .25 seconds when applying pressure.

What is a lifter? And what can I expect for this repair?

Thanks for the help guys!

i was joking about the lifter, there's no such thing on our cars

https://mustangforums.com/m_1525549/tm.htm

there are similar things though, and i wouldn't know the diagnosis of that problem if they are the cause

i know i went to a jiffy lube.. ford recommends 5w-20 for the gt, they tried to put 5w-30 in it, told them to shove it and walked up to an auto parts store (luckily in the same center) and bought 5 quarts of 5w20 and did it right there in their bay. funny sh*t

Sorry dude it's not a lifter but a rocker arm that would have come off and they are super easy to put back on if that is the case.
What you have to do is take off the valve covers and inspect it. But first check to see if all the plugs are in place.

Ok, I finally took off the plug cap and it turned out that one of the spark plugs popped off! The thread on the plug was stripped and the rubber hose part was ripped apart and the spring in the rubber plug was all screwed up.

I haven't replaced it yet (waiting for ride), but would this cause that loud noise and the vibration in the pedal?
