My rpms are much higher with 4.10's...at 80 I'm right at or above 3K, at 70 (If I remember right) I am at about 26-2700. 2350 at 80 mph sounds stock.

BTW, when my car was bone stock (Mines an auto also) I'd always get rubber into second gear if I jumped on it. And that was with very sticky street tires.

It sounds to me like you just got a strong running stock car, with less than desirable tires.

I have a 97GT that turned 2350 rpms with a 5spd and 3:27 gears. Sounds like you have 3:27's

ok i got a 01 w/auto and i keep reading about how much a tuner will help shift points but my car will already hit second and get sideways and it shifts at rl at wot in all gears so any 1 have a clue
when i first got my car, it did the same thing id spin in first until id connect and when it would shift to second with wot it would spin quick then connect. if ur talking about starting from a roll in 3rd gear then it jumps to second when u floor it, my car would go sideways. sounds stock. youd be pushing higher rpms in od if you werent

first check to see if od is on or not, if its off then that may be it.. I'd get loose as hell stock with od off and 245's. now with 295's in the rear and a tune I get loose at wot so I dont know how that would apply to you.
Check your gearing and also you might have a tc in there, if you have a tc then you found a nice little auto there, my friend^^

my car is an A/T also, and when I had the Goodyear Eagles in the back, the 1st gear would burn em, then second would put it sideways again. I've since gone to 255x35x17 Kumho ECSPT's and they don't break loose in 2nd as bad. it'll still rip 1st gear up though.

sounds like your stock, or maybe got a gear upgrade. I had the same question about my car since everyone kept telling me it was "SO SLOW" when stock. I'm leaning more towards I just bought a good stock car.

Is there a way to identify exactly what tune, if theres a tune?
Not trying to steal your post.
I recently bought my car also. I dont have any rev limiter at all. @70 im tachn about 2000-2200. My car is a big mistery to me. I put 87 octane in it the other day and that was the worst thing ever. I heard a backfire in the intake, some pings, lack of power, etc. I replaced it with 93 and it got rid of my problems, but i find it to have the most power with 89. Anyone have a clue, Im lost please help.

well u probly dont have the most power only with 89. higher octane would only be better for you so. you probly have a 93 octane tune or 89 octane tune. you will get pinging if you put anything lower then the tuned amount.

I say tires.

No one gets an 89 tune, so if it's tuned they had it tuned for the highest grade gas in their area.
