Cam Cap Bolt Broke Off

Cam Cap Bolt Broke Off
Yesterday I was putting in Comp 270's in my heads. I was tightening down the cam cap bolts, when one broke. I the drilled a hole through the broken off bolt. Then put a screw extractor in, and tried to pull the bolt out. Nope didn't work. The screw extractor broke off in the bolt. So then I got a bit out and tried to drill through both the screw extractor and the broken off bolt. That didn't work. I'm really not sure what to do. I know I have to drill the hole and re tap it, but I can't drill the piece of the screw extractor. Anybody run into this, or have any input?

What kind of extractor were you using. The fluted type or the screw in? Im guessing screw in? Thats your main problem--those suck.
You have to finda way to drill through it. You really dont have a choice. There's no other way to get it out.

Right on man. I was using some old screw extractor. Yeah, it was the screw in type. Anyways, I guess I will try a heavier duty drill bit.

I've had luck using JBWeld and something I can leverage (a socket, adaptor, etc.) on broken off bolts. Usually the key to this is having enough of the broken bolt sticking out to weld it to. Other then that, drill and extract is probably your only choice.
Good Luck

I think I just going to have to find a really strong drill bit. But yeah I was using a bit for metal, and not wood. Come on now. Haha. I drilled, drilled, and drilled while adding oil...but nothing. That extractor is going to be a huge pita. I was thinking about taking the head to a machine shop and having them work on it, but I really don't want to spend the money to do that. I don't know about how much I over torqued it by, I didn't even torque it that much to tell you the truth. The one that broke was probably of the least torque, well at leastI think so. I guess, I'll try and get a heavier duty drill bit and go from there. A drill press would be nice. I'll let you guys know what happens, and hopefully I can be some insight. Any hoot...there is always something with the car. Heads and cams were almost ready, but now I have to deal this little bolt!!
