how much to fix a thrown rod?

RE: how much to fix a thrown rod?
Doesn't necessarily mean a new engine is needed. You can't evaluate that until you do a complete teardown and and test the block.
No clue on how much but it could be labor intensive which will cost $$. It would still cost less to test your existing block and then repair it/replace the needed parts rather than to just drop money on a new motor.
Are you looking to get the motor back to its previous condition or are you looking to create a foundation for future mods?

I'd put good stuff in it while it was apart, because new ford rods aren't alot cheaper. Here is a set of manley rods for $529.

You may need to have the crank machined, and will need new bearings too though. I'd look at Clevite bearings, don't buy any untill you find out what you need because they will need to be oversized a certain amount.

If you threw a rod you more then likley reaked havoc on your cylinder walls. You cant be sure untill you look in there but if that rod hit the wall it is more then likely something that a .020 or .030 overbore could not fix. Also depending on how long it ran afterwards the piston could have made contact with the head.
