Default ok, cork or rubber

ok put a short throw in my car 1-2 weeks ago. Shifter didnt come with a gasket, so i used some RTV. it started whinning so i decided to check her out (fluid level) when i did.. very low. SO i toped it off and re applied some RTV. now 45 miles later back to whining as where when i toped it off it stoped. Should i just make a gasket with cork or rubber? and if so which is best?

The RTV is just fine for the gasket.

you might be leaking somewhere else or not puting enough RTV, RTV should be fine the fluid shouldn't be able to come up there and out

I think you have a different problem. Crawl under the car and see where the fluid is leaking from it should be obvious. How are you checking your fluid and noticing that it is low?

+1, look to see where its leaking from. Also you will get more tranny noise through a short throw than you had from your stock shifter. What kind did u buy? If its an MGW i reccommend the inner dust boot. Its $8 and helps to reduce that noise.

I don't understand how you can see the fluid[&:]? You can't see it from the fill plug and last time I looked you couldn't see it with the shifter out.
