What to look for when buying a 99 gt convertible?
Looking at one tomorrow. Automatic. Are there specific thing to look for with this year? It is stock and has been.
Also what size tires can fit the stock wheels? Any help is appreciated.

Okay, hopefully this one has the bigger rims.
Last question for today, how tough was the auto tranny back then? Axles? Can it handle spirited driving? Are they still good for the 300+hp range incase I start to mod?

during the test drive get it to shift from 3rd to 4th and see if you feel any shutter. and when you put it in drive.. if it jerks hard the tranny might be getting ready to go, could be a negotiating point

Look in the well behind the rear seat where the top lives when it is down and look for evidence of water leaks.
If you see water in there, the rear window has seperated from the top and the top will need to be replaced.
Look in the trunk for signs of water damage.
Pull up one of the sill plates that are under the doors and push the carpet back a little and feel for water/moisture, especially in the rear floorpan.
Pull up the floor mats in the front and feel around under the carpet for signs of leaks.
If you have time, take the car to a self serve pressure washer and spray everything in sight.
Take note of any musty smells, overuse of Fabreze /air fresheners or the scent of cocoanut (that's what detailers use to hide smells).
Make sure you open and close the top and also look at the rubber seals around the doors etc.
Chances are good you will find moisture some place or another so don't let that scare you off.
Use it as a bargaining point.
Have fun!

I will check all of those spots mentioned. The car is garage kept and was only had 6000 miles put on it in the last 4 years by the current 2nd owner. The car has 43K on it. It sounds like it is in real good condition.
